Because I’m here for you
Hello and welcome! I am Courtney, the counselor at Peaceful Life Counseling.
I would like to provide a quick introduction to who I am and how counseling services can help you. I will start with a brief about me: I am a mom of three, spouse of 20 years, animal lover, yoga practitioner, wanna-be crafter, and seasoned traveler. I have visited or lived in 25 states, I have lived in two countries aside from the US, and visited numerous others. I believe this has helped give me a diverse and sometimes unique perspective on life. I am open-minded and want to hear your thoughts based on your culture, perspective, and background.
My perspective
My passion is to de-stigmatize mental health. The conversations around mental illness can focus on the poor outcomes, severe issues, and the lack of care available. Mental health effects everyone and should be viewed as a continuum, one which we are all on. Counseling is helpful to ease distress from ailments like anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief, and can also be utilized as an every day tool for mental well-being. As a mom, wife, and friend, I know how important it is to find balance in life and the connection between our own minds and bodies. The ability to recognize our own place on the mental health continuum can help us all achieve better wellness, regulation, and peace.
I’ve always been in this field in some capacity.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Maryland. Many counselors come into the mental health field as a second career. My psychology degree set me up with a deeper understanding of how the mind works and how counseling can help people of all walks of life at any stage of life. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Midwestern State University here in Texas. This in-depth degree taught me the skills and tools I need to provide quality mental health care to our community, from children to adults. I believe that all people, regardless of background, age, or traumatic past, deserve to live a peaceful and fulfilling life.
I can help guide you to find the calm life you are looking for. I meet clients where they are at in their life and together help them figure out where they want to go. I aim to be compassionate, non-judgemental, and determined to help you achieve your goals. I understand the dynamics and complications of families. Your experience as an individual in a family is unique to you. Members of families all have their own perspective and experience, even if events or situations happened to them together how those events were interpreted may be different. This may lead to gaslighting, feelings of being invalidated, or feeling misunderstood in your family. I enjoy hearing your story and helping you realize you are not alone, and that in providing an empathic and safe space for you, you can heal.
Covert or overt trauma, you do not have to go it alone.
Trauma can become part of our existence that we are not consciously aware. Speaking with a counselor can help you gain awareness of these parts and make sense of your own emotional and physical awareness. Traumatic unresolved experiences can and do effect the mind, spirit, and body. We are revisiting these events in one way or another, counseling can help guide you on how to revisit these things in a therapeutic way that can lead to healing.
