Anxiety. Why does it afflict so many of us? What purpose can it possibly be serving? Why is it so relentless?
Feelings and symptoms of anxiety have become all too common in our every day lives. The anxious voice in your head making you double check things, not letting you drift off to sleep peacefully, telling you to worry about what everyone else is thinking, convincing you that something bad will happen. These thoughts and feelings often come with the unwanted side effects of a tight chest, loss of sleep, anxious habits like fidgeting, agitation and even anger, a racing heart, stomach upset, fast breathing, sweating, and maybe even a pounding head.
The unwelcome symptoms of anxiety might be causing you to miss out on activities or social events. They may be causing you distress at your job. Most likely, anxiety is causing you some discomfort in your life and possibly tension in your relationships.
You are not your anxiety and you can take control back from it.

Together we can implement tools and techniques that you can use as needed to tame anxiety as well as figure out how your anxiety served you in the past and how it can better serve you now and in the future.
Anxiety had a purpose and is a normal part of life, recognizing real danger is an important skill. Sometimes those feelings of panic get too strong and prevent you from fully living the life you want. Worrying about having a panic attack or anxiety attack may be stopping you from doing the things you want or love and may be getting in the way of your efforts to relax.
Therapy can help with anxiety in so many ways!
You can learn coping and relaxation skills in therapy. Mindfulness activities have been researched and proven to help people deal with anxiety and feelings of stress. Therapy can provide you with a calm place to explore your underlying emotions. Finding and connecting with that anxious part of you, noticing what the worry and fear is, and addressing it with compassion are things you can explore in a therapy session. Giving a voice to that part and feeling the feelings instead of suppressing them can do wonders! You can learn how to check in with yourself and how to feel those feelings, they aren’t wrong they are just there.
Techniques can include breathing exercises, sitting with the feelings, relaxation techniques, guided meditation exercises, tapping, body based movements and somatic exercises, poly vagal techniques, learning nervous system regulation, gaining deeper understanding into your own specific reasons for anxiety, and grounding techniques.
